Year 4

SUMMER 2018

Wow, Summer term already!

This half term we are discovering new lands and new civilisations, boldly going where no man has gone….wrong show. However we are indeed doing that and more, looking at the Age of exploration!

We will be looking at the history of discovery in the 16th and 17th centuries culminating in the ‘discovery’ of America, examining the good (and not so good) achievements of the time.

In Science we will be looking at the states of matter and how certain objects can be all of them! Answers on a postcard.

In English we are currently looking at warning stories, looking at how stories will often teach a lesson that the main character only truly learns through strife.

In PE we will be continuing with our swimming and Team Theme coaches ON MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY, so please make sure you remember your kits!

Reading

Reading is so important to your child’s development both now and in the future so please make sure reading is done at least 3 times a week.

Don’t forget to sign their reading record book!

Maths wise, it is very important we keep plugging away at our Maths skills at home as well as at school, so please keep at times tables and pop quizzes whilst they least expect it!

SPRING 2018

This half term we are saying “Ave” to one another, enjoying new straight roads and marvelling at the mighty Testudo. That’s right; we are welcoming our new Roman overlords and the civilisation they bring!

In History this half term we will be looking at the history of Roman Britain, finding out why they wanted to come here in the first place. I have a feeling it wasn’t for the weather!
We will look at how the Romans were superior to the indigenous Celts and why this ensured 400 years of Roman dominance.

Your bright sparks will learn about electrical circuits in Science and explore terms such as conductor and insulator, practically making circuits, before examining the science of sound.

In English we are currently looking at the persuasive power of the media, and are going to become reporters for our own newspapers; move over Piers Morgan!

In PE we will be continuing with our swimming and MUFC coaches ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY so please make sure you remember your kits!
