We have recently been contacted by a number of concerned residents (and one of our local councillors) regarding a growing number of incidents and ‘near misses’ on the surrounding roads involving children on bikes. This has included children pulling wheelies in front of cars, pulling straight out into the road and riding 4 or 5 abreast and blocking the traffic.
We have also had reports of children – on foot – running out into the roads without looking and not crossing the road safely. We are really concerned that it is just a matter of time before one of our pupils is going to be seriously injured. We have spoken to the children about road safety in assembly today and will promote further messages in our impending road safety week. Road Safety week will take place in school during the week beginning 8th October and will include the ‘Slow Down For Bobby’ assembly. As part of this effort to keep our children safe, we ask that parents park appropriately outside the school gates and make sure they are not on the double yellow lines or blocking the traffic.
Please may we ask all parents to speak to their children this weekend and reinforce how important it is to cycle safely and cross the roads with care. We would be devastated if one of our pupils was involved in a road accident that could have been avoided. Thank you for your help with this important message to keep our children safe in the community.
